Which First Aid Course is right for me?
Choosing the right First Aid course depends on your needs and circumstances:
- CPR (HLTAID009): Should be renewed annually for everyone.
- Provide First Aid (HLTAID011): Recommended every 3 years.
- Remote First Aid (HLTAID013): Essential for those in the great outdoors or remote areas.
- Advanced First Aid and Pain Management: Great for those involved in weekend sports or high-risk environments.
- Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy (HLTAID015): Ideal for those needing advanced life support skills.
- Occupational First Aid Skill Set: Suitable for workplace first aid officers.
- Electrical Supply Industry (ESI) First Aid or Low Voltage Rescue (LVR): Crucial for those working with electrical systems
-
Standard Mental Health First Aid: Important for those wanting to support mental health in their community or workplace.
Selecting the right course ensures you’re prepared for emergencies relevant to your lifestyle and work environment.
Are your courses nationally accredited?
Yes, Real Response is registered with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO45022).
We offer a variety of nationally accredited courses in First Aid and emergency response.
Additionally, we provide recognised programs such as Standard Mental Health First Aid (Mental Health First Aid Australia) and the First Responder Tactical Trauma Course (FRTTC), endorsed by the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC).
Our specialised bespoke programs are backed by over 10 years of experience in simulation-enhanced education.
How long is my certificate valid?
Generally, certificates like HLTAID009 Provide CPR, HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy, and PUAFER005 Operate As Part Of An Emergency Control Organisation should be renewed annually.
Courses such as HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and other advanced first aid or chief warden courses have a maximum validity of 3 years.
This advice can vary by industry, and we recommend annual training for those in high-risk environments to ensure confidence in an emergency.
What is simulation based first aid training?
Simulation-based first aid training at Real Response involves using realistic scenarios to replicate emergency situations. This training includes role-playing, moulage (realistic injury makeup), special effects, and simulated 000 calls to create an immersive learning environment. The goal is to prepare participants to handle real-life emergencies confidently and effectively. For more details, visit our simulation training page.
Public courses
Public Courses
What’s the difference between a public course and an onsite course?
Public Course: These are scheduled courses held at our training centres in St Kilda, Geelong, Gladstone, and Townsville. They are open to anyone who wishes to enrol.
Onsite Course: These courses are conducted at your workplace or a location of your choice anywhere in Australia or even around the world. They can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your group and are ideal for organisations wanting to train multiple employees simultaneously.
Both options provide comprehensive and accredited training, but the choice depends on convenience and the specific needs of the participants.
How big are your classes?
Class sizes vary depending on the location and course, but generally, we have a maximum capacity of around 14-18 participants for most of our courses.
This ensures personalised guidance from our trainers. If you need more people trained onsite, we can structure the training to be cost-effective while maintaining the course quality.

We offer a wide selection of courses that can be combined and adapted to meet your requirements.

Do you have minimum numbers?
Yes, all our onsite courses have a minimum charge for less than 10 participants to cover the trainer’s travel and time at your site in metropolitan areas. While you can have fewer than 10 participants, it is most cost-effective to have at least 10.
If you have significantly fewer participants and are located near one of our training centres, we offer many of the same courses with no minimums and often at a slightly lower cost per person.

Booking FAQs
Which LVR course should I do?
If you hold an electrical licence or can provide evidence of an electrical qualification, we recommend enrolling in the new UETDRMP007 – Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel. This course is tailored specifically for those with formal electrical training. If you do not have these qualifications, you can still enrol in UETDRRF004 – Perform rescue from a live LV panel. For a full explanation of these changes, please visit our detailed guide here.
What is the difference between your express/blended 3.25hr courses and the 7hr First Aid Course?
Our express/blended 3.25-hour First Aid Course is designed for those who prefer a more concise, face-to-face training session, complemented by an extensive online component. This format doubles the online work to ensure that all theoretical knowledge is covered beforehand, allowing the in-person session to focus intensively on simulations and assessments. This option is ideal for individuals who are refreshing their skills or are comfortable with independent online study.
In contrast, our comprehensive 7-hour First Aid Course is recommended for those who are new to first aid or have not undertaken a first aid course in a while. This course provides extensive face-to-face learning, with less online work required, ensuring that all participants receive thorough instruction in both the practical and theoretical aspects of first aid. This full-day format is particularly beneficial for first-time learners or those who prefer a more traditional learning environment.
Are there any prerequisites for the courses?
Most of our courses do not have prerequisites. The courses that do are listed below.
- UETDRMP007—Perform Rescue from a Live Low Voltage Panel (Find out about this prerequisite here),
- HLTAID015—Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy (Requires current HLTAID011—Provide First Aid)
- PUAEME008—Provide Pain Management (Requires current HLTAID011—Provide First Aid)
Do you have any restrictions on who can complete a course?
While anyone can participate in our courses and receive an unaccredited certificate, there are some restrictions for those seeking nationally accredited certification due to the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) requirements. Consider the following when booking:
- You must be eligible to hold an Australian USI (Unique Student Identifier).
- You must be over the age of 16, or a parent, guardian, or responsible adult must attend the course with you.
- You must be physically able to complete the required assessments, such as performing CPR on the floor for 2 minutes.
- You must be able to complete any online pre-course work.
- You must be fluent in English or have access to an interpreter.
If you have any questions or need specific information, please email us at support@realresponse.com.au or call 1300 744 980, and we will be happy to help.
Why do you have a course listed but no upcoming dates?
Some courses, like Standard Mental Health First Aid or First Responder Tactical Trauma, are run infrequently due to trainer availability and low public attendance. If you are interested in taking a course, get in touch via our Contact Us page.
I have a group I want to enrol into a public course but there’s not enough places.
Our courses have a maximum capacity of 12 (online), 14 (express), and 18 (standard) participants. Our operations team manually manages these capacities in our Student Management System. If our booking system indicates that there are not enough available places, please contact us at 1300 744 980 or support@realresponse.com.au. We may be able to accommodate your group or offer an alternative solution.

USI (Unique Student Identifier) Help
USI FAQ
Why is my USI unverifiable?
Real Response requires three bits of information to verify a USI.
- Legal first and last names as used to create the USI
- DOB
- The actual USI
If you provide any details on registration that do not exactly match those used to create your USI, Real Response will not be able to verify your USI. See here.
Why can’t Real Response access my USI information?
Your USI is a personal identifier, like a Medicare number or Social Security numbers. Registered Training Organisations only have a limited access to USI details. All Student Management Systems used by RTOs must connect to the USI system so USI verification can be immediate, but this connection is only one way, meaning we cannot draw information from the USI system onto your student profile.
Why do I need a USI?
The government requires all accredited course students to have a USI so their training can be logged on the USI system and research can be conducted based off training completed. If you choose not to get a USI, you can still be certified, but Real Response, as a Registered Training Organisation (RTOs), cannot provide you with a certificate.
