USI FAQs
USI FAQ
Why do you want my USI before my training?
In order to make the certification process run more smoothly, Real Response requires your USI before your training date so that any issues with this element of registration can be resolved before the session.
Will my USI be on my certificate?
No, legally your USI cannot be included on your certificate.
I am a uni student and already have a student number, do I need a USI?
Yes, your student number is individual to your university and does not link to the USI system. You will need to create a USI.
I got married and need to change my USI details to match my legal name. How do I do this?
You will need to follow the process laid out on the usi.gov.au website. See here.
Why is my USI unverifiable?
Real Response requires three bits of information to verify a USI.
- Legal first and last names as used to create the USI
- DOB
- The actual USI
If you provide any details on registration that do not exactly match those used to create your USI, Real Response will not be able to verify your USI. See here.
Why can’t Real Response access my USI information?
Your USI is a personal identifier, like a Medicare number or Social Security numbers. Registered Training Organisations only have a limited access to USI details. All Student Management Systems used by RTOs must connect to the USI system so USI verification can be immediate, but this connection is only one way, meaning we cannot draw information from the USI system onto your student profile.
I don’t know if I have a USI/I can’t remember my USI. What do I do?
The usi.gov.au website provides support to identify missing USIs. See here.
I am not Australian, do I need a USI?
Anyone who does accredited training in Australia has to have a USI. You will need to register as an ‘International Student’. See here.
Can someone else make my USI for me?
You can give your employer or RTO permission to create a USI for you. Real Response as a Registered Training Organisation, are more than happy to create a USI for you, however as we run short courses, the course cost will increase due to the administration required for this process.
How do I get a USI?
You need to go to the usi.gov.au website and follow the steps provided. This will also require you to provide a legal form of identification and personal details.
What does a USI do for me?
Your training will be logged on your own, personal, USI portal. You can refer to this portal for details of training previously completed.
Why do I need a USI?
The government requires all accredited course students to have a USI so their training can be logged on the USI system and research can be conducted based off training completed. If you choose not to get a USI, you can still be certified, but Real Response, as a Registered Training Organisation (RTOs), cannot provide you with a certificate.
I am not a student, do I need a USI?
For the purposes of accredited training you are considered a ‘student’ by the government. Therefore you must have a USI if you wish to get a certificate, no matter how old or young you are, or where you are from.
What is a USI?
USI stands for Unique Student Identifier. It is an Australian Government initiative which is used to register all accredited training conducted within Australia on one database. More information can be found here.
